Synod News

Here are some of the highlights of this week at Synod (in addition to that of Euthanasia – see blog from Steve’s Study):
- Mission Hour – we heard from four different people from different corners of the globe, about the exciting growth, as well as the huge problems faced by our Christian brothers and sisters around the world. Particularly challenging was the speaker from Uganda, who told us of the rapid growth of the church, but the lack of trained people to lead them (even though it only costs from AU$650 to send a Pastor to college for a year).
- “Bishopscourt” – this is the home of our Archbishop Peter Jensen. Synod voted not to sell this beautiful home to help release funds that could ease the Diocese’ financial problems.
- Instead of the sale of “Bishopscourt”, a 1.14% levy will be applied to all parishes for one year to give time to find ways of solving the financial problems
- “Anglican Aid” was officially launched, which is the arm from within the diocese that co-ordinates crisis care, project support for those in underdeveloped countries, as well as taking the gospel to the world. All members of our church are encouraged to consider making “Anglican Aid” their first port of call when it comes to charitable giving.
