Schachtel

We extended a very warm welcome to Andrew and Muriel Schachtel who visited the 9.45m sevice today. Andrew, who used to be a member of St. Peter’s Youth Fellowship, and Muriel have been Link Missionaries for many years, based variously in Bhutan and Thailand. After he returned to Australia, Andrew was involved in the establishment of Culture Connect, based in Wollongong.

Australia is a multi-cultural nation and there is a high proportion of population who are from non-English speaking. These people can be migrants, refugees, while others simply international students who decide to stay in Australia after they have completed their studies.

Many of the people who have moved to Australia have had very little contact with Christians and few opportunities to hear or read the good news of Jesus. CultureConnect is a ministry of Interserve, actively involved in Christian ministry amongst people of non-English speaking backgrounds. Its goal is to help the Australian church engage in cross-cultural ministry within local communities.

Andrew also pointed out that Australian locals can help to spread God’s gospel to these ethnic minority groups in many different ways.
