Who do you trust?

We have to trust people in our lives all the time don’t we? Whether it’s our parents, friends, work-mates, or even just the train driver who gets you to work each morning, we all have to put our trust in people sometimes.

This becomes harder to do when the inevitable happens and someone betrays our trust. Your parents can divorce, friends can betray a confidence, work-mates can ‘stab you in the back’ and the train-driver can be constantly late. When these things happen, our ability to trust others is eroded & we learn that we can trust no one but ourselves. This can cause great problems in marriages, in families, or even between friends, as a foundation of trust is essential for all relationships.

However, one of the greatest problems this can cause is in our relationship with God. As humans, it’s hard enough to relinquish control of our lives, but when our trust has been damaged, we can find it nigh on impossible to put our full trust in God.

And yet, this is the central theme of the Christian message. It is as we put our faith (or trust) in God, that our sins are forgiven and we enter His kingdom.

When we are, to quote Jesus, “born again”, we must take tiny steps to learn what it means to trust him. The Christian life is a continual process of opening up more and more of our lives to Him, surrendering control to Him, & allowing Him to show his trustworthiness each step of the way. For as we do relinquish the reins on our life, we will discover that God will take us to places we’ve never dreamed possible & give us a life of eternal joy, peace and fulfillment.
