We Still Call Australia Home!

Well, Lorna and I are back in the country and glad to be back with our people. Many thanks to all those who were praying for us while we were away. Here are some of the highlights of our time in I-r-k-u-t-s-k:
- Spending time with our “host family” the Kulikovs. It was wonderful to be able to hear about their joys and struggles, to encourage them in their ministry and to enjoy their wonderful hospitality. Indeed, one of the things we love about the R-u-s-s-i-a-n people is their great generosity and kindness to each other and to strangers.
- Going to church. The first week was holidays and, like in East Lindfield, the numbers were a bit down, but it was more “normal” the second week. Although we don’t understand the language, it is always a privilege to worship with those who have such an obvious faith and love for God. We looked at the place and use of God’s gifts in the church, which opened up some very valuable discussion for the church members.
- Talking with the preachers. It’s difficult enough preparing sermons for those of us who have spent years sitting under sound biblical teaching, as well as going to and leading bible studies, or even experiencing theological training. Imagine having to preach without any of those things! It was a really helpful time for those in the church who do the talks in church, to sit down and spend some very focused time thinking about how to improve their preaching.
- The camp. The conditions were much better than last year, and the fellowship was just as warm. Lorna did three talks on what it means to be a Christian woman (looking particularly at beauty and relationships), while I gave three on being a Christian man (focusing on Truth, Love and Leadership).
It was a wonderful time, and though we’re very glad to be back, our hearts still ache for those we’ve left behind. Please join us in praying for them, their church, and their witness to the people of I-r-k-u-t-s-k.
