St Peter's On Mission

Today is a very special day as we celebrate 58 years (is that right val?) of gospel ministry here at St Peters. It’s exciting to think of all the lives that have been changed for eternity because of the faithful ministry of so many people over that time.
One of the most exciting things for me, as I think about St Peters, is the long tradition we have supporting and encouraging mission. There have been many members of our church over the years who have ended up in full-time and overseas mission, & today it’s so wonderful to welcome back James Toose, a former member of St Peters, who went out as a missionary for many years & now works for CMS NSW.
Today provides us with the perfect opportunity to think and talk about our own involvement in mission. Of course, we continue to pray and support a number of people who are (or will be) taking the gospel to different parts of the world on our behalf. We will be fortunate enough to hear from many of them over the coming months (Seumas and Rachel are here today, Andrew Schachtel will be here on the 18th of July, the Youngs on the 25th of July, and the Cottons later in the year).
However, our involvement in mission isn’t just confined to those we support “out there”. Each of us, in our own context, is a missionary. The gospel is for all people, in all places; and that includes East Lindfield, Killara, our sports clubs, schools and social clubs. God has a passion for the lost – he proved it by sending his Son to die for them. Let’s pray that God would fill us with the same passion & give us opportunities to be missionaries to our friends, family and neighbours.
