The Year of Living Biblically

Welcome to 2010! I hope and pray that you’ve had a relaxing break and are ready to throw yourself into a new year.

I wonder if you’re a “New Year’s Resolution” kind of person. Perhaps you’ve determined to exercise more, or eat less, or visit your relatives more regularly, or to make more time for your friends and family.

For Christians, the New Year provides a perfect opportunity to look back and give thanks for the things God has done in your life over the last 12 months. What has he taught you? How have you grown as a Christian? How have you seen him at work in your life? We must remember to look back and be thankful.

However, the New Year also provides a natural time to look forward to the future, to anticipate what God will do and to determine to change things that need changing. As a church this year, I believe we need to challenge ourselves to live more “biblically”. This sounds a bit “holy”, but in the end, all it means is to allow God’s priorities to guide your own. It means being prepared to put your investment & educational decisions, purchases, relationships, time management, talents and much more at God’s disposal, and being ready to change your life in obedience to his call.

As such, I think we should make 2010 the “Year of Living Biblically”, where we all as individuals (and as a community), decide to focus our lives on our Lord and Saviour and to live for him.
