Dear friends,
Well, Tessa leaves in two days and we will be sad to see her go. She has been a great blessing to all of us, and the timing of her visit was a gift from God.
Missions work in Spain normally begins with friendships and trust. Tessa quickly gained that with our mission team and with those she ministered to. The young children and mothers in our English class loved her. David, a 17-year old student that I tutor enjoyed his conversations with Tessa and wants to keep in touch. She helped in my adult class and not only spoke of Australia, but engaged the students by her curiosity about Spain. The missionary kid school, Evangelical Christian Academy, was very grateful for her help in teaching and helping teachers. I must admit that the greatest excitement for me was to see a friendship formed between my 20 year old neighbour (who I had only just met and asked to teach with me= and Tessa. Normally I start teaching classes in October. However, this year because of working with a visiting group of women, I started the classes in November. Tessa was here to help me with artistic work which is not my strong point, but more importantly connected well with Cristina, my neighbour. All three of us started the children’s class together and tonight we are all having dinner at the Cottons’ house. The door is open to love and share with Cristina because of having Tessa here! Let’s trust Christ for her salvation and for her whole family’s as well.
Tessa showed great interest in Spanish culture and I have never seen someone (in 25 years of working in Spain) have such a capacity for acquiring a language through immersion. (I have had 24 teachers in 10 years.) She has a giving heart and was a joy to work with.
I did want to mention our gratitude to your church for your prayer and economic support of Tessa’s time of ministry in Spain. We received 500 euros and later 200 more as she extended her stay in Spain. Let me know if you need a more official receipt.
Short termers play a role that is crucial in missions. Young, single workers make inroads in friendship evangelism that we would never make. Their faith refreshes ours and we love having them with us!
Do pray with us that God will bring fruit for eternity from all that Tessa has done while with us. Thank you again for partnering with her and with us to reach Spaniards for Christ.
Gratefully yours
Sylvia Cummings
