The Retrenchment support evening at LEPS went well last night. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the event, those who assisted behind the scenes, and those who prayed that it would go well. In particular I would like to thank Rose and Steve for the excellent job they did with their presentations and the facilitated discussion and their significant preparation leading up to the seminar night.
We had 13 participants, including 2 who hadn’t pre-registered and 2 who registered in the final 24 hours. With our team we numbered 23 in total. I think it was after 10pm when the last of the participants departed and we then cleaned up.
Of the 13 participants, 2 were retired and were there more for general interest and to share their own experiences. One person had been made redundant this week and one is due to be made redundant in the coming weeks. In addition, I know of two women who would like our assistance, but couldn’t get there last night.
We concluded the evening with the participants telling us that they would benefit from some future workshops around the following topics:
- Resume review
- Interview techniques
- Networking with others in a similar situation
- Planning sessions for individuals
- Job search/networking techniques/IT workshop (web tools, etc)
Participants were given my contact details as a point of coordination, so that they could respond with further ideas of how we might help them.
In the next week or so we will need to reconvene to plan these sessions. Please advise your availability and preference for a meeting either next Tuesday evening 12 May or Thursday evening 14 May at 7.30pm or Sunday 17 May at 11.00am?
We’ve promised these people that we will help. Now we need to deliver. I will ask many of you to participate in one or more of these sessions.
