Parents' worries

Whenever your children are proving especially troublesome, it is tempting to resort to that familiar phrase: It’s only a stage they are passing through. The only problem with that is that as soon as they pass through one stage they enter another. And so we have to use the same old excuse.
As babies, they keep you awake all night with their crying. As adolescents, they keep you awake all night wondering where on earth they are. As babies, you wish they would be able to amuse themselves. As adolescents, you worry that they might amuse themselves in all the wrong ways. Worry about when little Johnny will start talking gives way to concerns that big Johnny will never shut up.
Our lives as parents and as human beings have their stages and phases. There always seems another mountain to climb. So it is good to have the help of an unchanging God who goes on loving us whatever stage we, or those we love, may be passing through.
