Sacrifice

Much of the story of war is the story of sacrifice. Some sacrifices are every famous, others remain secret. Some come as an expression of a great victory, others seem to be associated withh defeat. The common element of all sacrifice is that one person gives a life in order to save others.
Anzac Day is a memorial to the sacrifies of those who landed at Anzac Cove. A now very famous sacrifice. Military historians record this campaign as a tactical failure: immediate objectives were not secured and withrawal resulted. However, there is no denying the war was eventually won even if the battle was lost.
Christians regularly remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Giving his life so those who embrace him by faith can avoid eternal separation from God. He died so we might live. For some, this is not well known, and is even dismissed as fantasy. And observers of that Good Friday event would have thought it spelled defeat not victory. But we know differently. The sacrifice was not in vain.
