Who is Jesus?

His active ministry lasted for less than three years. He lived in an out-of-the-way corner of a huge empire. He held no political position. He had no money or possessions to speak of. He never wrote a book, song or starred in any movies. He didn’t lead a rebellion. He was rejected by many, hounded by the authorities & finally arrested, tortured and executed. And yet no person has so profoundly impacted the world as the man Jesus.
The very calendar we follow was based around him; many of the holidays we celebrate (even in pagan Australia) are focussed on him; and there have been more books, songs and movies made about him than any other person. Some today attempt to ‘retell’ the story of Jesus from rumours and disputed sources, to ‘reframe’ him in a way that fits with the modern world, & yet he refuses to be tamed.
Who is this man Jesus? The best way to find out is to go directly to the source – who does he say he is?
In the gospel of John, Jesus makes some pretty bold assertions about who he is and what he came to do, particularly in the numerous “I am…” statements found throughout the book. Over the next two months, we will be look in more detail at these statements to see if we can discover Jesus as he intended to reveal himself.
Who is Jesus? Come and join us over the next 8 weeks to find out!
