Many of you will be aware of the fact that we have a Parish Council, but you may not be aware of what exactly it does. So I thought I’d just give you a brief window into some of the things we discussed last Tuesday night:
- One of our big concerns at the moment is the state of our finances. On Sunday the 27th November, we will be presenting in more detail, how our church finances operate, the status of our bequest monies, as well as our plans for the future.
- When the new artificial turf is laid, we ask that people try as much as possible to avoid driving or parking on it. This will help preserve this space for many years to come.
- We heard about the “Zing” Holiday Kids Program planned for January next year. We hope to be able to cater for up to 100 children and youth in the last full week of the holidays (16-20th Jan). This will be a great opportunity to make contact with those outside our church & to present the gospel in a fun and relevant way.
- At present we are considering the future of the two evening services. Please pray for Peter & Steve as they decide whether to keep two separate services, or to combine them from 2012.
- There are a number of Christmas celebrations planned for the next month or so. Keep an eye out for details.
- Next year marks our 60th anniversary as a Parish. To celebrate, we will be having the Archbishop of Sydney (Peter Jensen) coming to speak at a combined service on Sunday the 25th November. There will also be a church dinner, which will be a great opportunity for St Peters members (past and present) to get together to celebrate all that God has done through the ministry in this place.
- Pre-school equipment – All those who use the hall have been asked to take special care with the property of the Community Pre-school. Please make sure no child plays with or on the inside equipment as it is easily damaged, & it does not belong to us.
- We heard about a new resource, called “Common Prayer”, which has been produced by the Diocese. This will give our service leaders some assistance and direction in their preparation for the Sunday services they lead.
- We discussed the possibility of holding a number of “Hospitality Sunday”, or “Guess who’s coming to lunch” events in 2012, to give members the opportunity to get to know each other better.
- Finally, although time ran out on us, we began to hear about the Laysons’ planned trip to Irkutsk in the second half of January next year. Please pray for preparations for this ministry.
I would like to thank all those who take part in the ministry of Parish Council. It is quite a big commitment & a great responsibility to help lead our church in its life and ministry. Please pray for us & perhaps take the time to thank those who are involved for their time and input.
