Christians & the Environment

Climate Change and the Environment are huge issues on our national agenda at the moment. For many, it seems like we have reached a crucial stage of our earth’s history, where we must make choices that will impact our way of life in the present and perhaps for centuries to come.

Last Sunday, at “Earth Church” we considered how we, as Christians, should approach this whole debate. Without seeking to “take sides” on this issue, we saw how important it is for us to take part in discussions with an attitude of love and humility. No one is served by making attacks or by refusing to listen to those with differing opinions.

Having said this, we mustn’t fall into the trap of ignoring these issues, hoping they will go away. At the very least, the impacts of climate change on the poorest people of the world, who are already losing homes and livelihoods, should stir us to action. There is no excuse for us to bury our heads in the sand on this. If we are to truly “love our neighbour”, this will impact on how we use the resources of the earth and will make us want to be aware of the impact our actions on others.

I said last week I would give a few websites that could start us thinking on this issue. Here are just a couple:
