How’s Your Ark Coming?

There have been plenty of jokes this week, with all this rain, about Noah and his Ark. Sometimes it’s felt a bit like it must have for him hasn’t it?
In reality, however, we know that we don’t ever have to fear a repeat of the destruction of the flood in Noah’s time. God has promised that he would never again destroy the earth in that way. You’ll remember, I’m sure, that God put a rainbow in the sky to remind us, every time we saw one, of this promise.
However, this is not the end of the significance of the days of Noah. Jesus told his disciples (in Matt 24:36f) that the story of Noah should be a reminder to us of another day of judgment: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
Although God has promised never again to destroy the earth with flood, we do know that the world is still reserved for a day of judgment, a judgment that will be even more comprehensive than in the days of Noah. And just as for Noah, we will only be saved by an “Ark”. However, it is not a nautical Ark that will save us… our “Ark” is the Lord Jesus Christ. As we put our hope in him, we will be saved from the coming judgment.
So, how’s your “Ark” coming along? Do you have yours ready?
